Using Multiple IE Installer for Version Testing
I read today about Multiple IE Installer. It allows you to install all old versions of IE from 3.0 to 6.0 on your computer. I’ve been keeping an installation of IE 6 on my secondary computer, but this allows me to check web pages I create with all these different browsers without changing computers. I was actually pleased with the way my blog looked. All browsers seemed OK except for IE 4.0.1 which had some style issues. IE 3.0 doesn’t support CSS, so it just displays plain text with no formatting, but I’ve never had visitors who use IE 3.0 (or IE 4 or 5 for that matter) so I’m not too worried about it.
Anyway, I think it’s pretty cool.
William, that is pretty cool. Must admit I’ve never stumbled upon this. I use browsershots.org for my cross browser testing and it works pretty well.
Yes, I’ve used browsershots.org as well. The only problem I’ve had is with testing anything dynamic (drop-down menus and stuff). In terms of available browsers though, it can’t be beat.
You’re right about dynamic stuff. I think that Adobe has a product coming out soon that does Cross Browser testing inside of it with the ability to emulate a whole bunch of browsers. I can’t remember the name, but it’s something to look out for.
Also, I just found Litmus which seems pretty neat and definitely worth it for a web professional.
Both of those sound pretty cool. I’ll be keeping an eye out for the Adobe product.
I think I heard about Litmus somewhere, but I had forgotten about it. Sounds like a pretty neat tool.
